Divergent Thinking:
Transformation "Squiggle Stories" were part of our day today. The kids are getting pretty good at creating by elaborating on a squiggle and then writing an original story. We'll try a new form of divergent thinking next week-Creative Problem Solving!
Convergent Thinking:
We used our logical thinking skills and collaboration to work on a Partner Attribute Game. The kids worked with a partner to find 3-5 attributes that they share. Then they told the group about these attributes. Some were pretty funny and clever like, "We both have necks!" The kids are almost attribute experts!
We continued our work on our convergent (deductive) thinking by reading and solving a mystery story like detectives. After practicing this, we read another Encyclopedia Brown story and solved a mysterious case.
Affective:
We practiced Mindfulness today with a guided relaxation. Try it: Floating Balloon.
We read a book, Scaredy Cat about a cat who was afraid to try things. We also shared stories about times that we were afraid, but tried something new anyway. I told the story about my son and I seeing a bear while hiking. Ask your child about it!
Algebraic Thinking:
We dug a little deeper with Variables today during our math time. The kids shared their Variable homework and then we worked on examples of number sentences with one, two, or three variables. Pretty tough stuff!
HW: Write 3 attributes that you share with your mom or dad.
Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger
