With testing, our Target schedule has been a bit mixed up the last couple of weeks. Here's an overview of what we've been learning about:
Convergent Thinking:
We've moved on from basic logic activities into real grid logic puzzles. Our warm-ups with the game, "20 Questions" are so much fun and help the kids think logically about how to guess the mystery object. This is a great game to play at home. We've also continued our reading of Nate the Great and Nate the Great and the Halloween Hunt. These books, in addition to our Encyclopedia Brown videos give the kids practice applying their convergent thinking skills to solve the mysteries. They are becoming experts at listening for clues and eliminating "Red Herrings"!
During stations, we've been playing chess and logic games on the computer to strengthen our critical and convergent thinking skills.
Algebraic Thinking:
We've continued our work with variables, using our balance scales to solve simple equations. This is great preparation for our algebra work in second grade.
Divergent Thinking:
We've used our creativity to complete an April F2OE (Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, & Elaboration) task. Check them out on our First Grade Display outside the classroom. We've also used our creativity to design a vehicle to help Sybil cross the pond.
Critical Thinking:
We've been working on visual discrimination & critical thinking with categorizing Sybil's Crazy Creatures. We've also been working on some new 300 piece jigsaw puzzles. This is great practice for visual discrimination and critical thinking. Check out the puzzle here:
