Affective Skills
We worked on our collaboration skills with a teambuilding activity, "Silent Birthday Line-Up". It was definitely an interesting process, and the kids learned about teamwork and problem solving.
We also worked on developing our affective skills by including several questions about our Multiple Intelligences and various thinking skills in our "Target Scavenger Hunt".
Today we continued our mindfulness practice with a review of "Still Quiet Place". This is a strategy kids can use to help them think of a relaxing place whenever they feel a need for a bit of calming.
Novel Study
The kids had a great time beginning our new novel, The Way to Stay in Destiny. It is a sweet and funny story of a boy discovering new friends and his musical talents.
Convergent Thinking Skills
We worked on Venn Plexors, which are logical thinking activities combining Venn diagrams and Perplexors. We also stretched our logical and mathematical skills with a Versatiles activity about math patterns.
Unit Study
We kicked off our unit today with a song, written by my daughter (“Seeking-Finding”), and three videos- OK Go - The Writing's On the Wall - Official Video, OK Go - Needing/Getting - Official Video, and “Jimmy Fallon, Paul McCartney and "Sing" Cast Perform "Wonderful Christmastime" (A Cappella)”. The kids still didn’t know what we were going to do, so I pulled out the top secret Mystery Bag, which contained a notebook, an iPad, and a drumstick. Have you guessed the unit yet? The kids got to it pretty quickly after the drumstick—we’re making an “OK Go” style music video! This will be a 9 week project involving writing, listening, planning, creating, physical stunts, art, music, technology, and most of all COLLABORATION! We can’t wait to see what these creative kids come up with!
