The kids enjoyed their "Soft Start" with our Learning Huddles today. Their collaboration has always been such a strength, and it's getting even better!
Algebraic Thinking:
We continued on with our Hands On Equations. One group spent a little more time cementing their understanding of an advanced concept, while our other group explored a new concept.
Unit Study:
We continued research on the Survival Book topics. The kids have created Word documents on Office 365, so they can be accessed at home and at school. We also created Edmodo small groups for each of the topics, so the kids can communicate with each other about good information and helpful advice.
Stations:
We gave our brains a workout with Analogies and Logic puzzles to build our convergent thinking skills. Then we followed up by creating a SURVIVOR acrostic. The kids came up with some very creative ideas.
Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book, finding out how Sam handled his first few weeks alone in the woods. We stopped to take a look at pictures of a "Duck Hawk", which Sam rightly called a Peregrine Falcon, a Skunk Cabbage leaf, which Sam used to boil water, and cat tails, which he cooked and ate. We also created a rough map of the terrain and landmarks around Sam's tree.
Affective Skills:
We investigated road blocks to developing a Growth Mindset and the strategies we can use to overcome those roadblocks. The kids shared good examples and added important insights from their own experiences!
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with "2 Minutes of Mindful Breathing".
