Lots of Learning!

Our day was filled with SO much good learning!  We started off with our Learning Huddles with the kids collaborating to create things and solve hard problems!

Later we used our math skills and creativity to discern the pattern of multiples in our Math Mosaics.  They turned out so lovely!

Stations:
We tested our critical thinking skills with a logic puzzle and some analogies.  Then we used our divergent thinking to create a Twitter Post (Tweet) of our favorite survival tip from our novel.  The kids blew me away with their ideas!

Unit Study:
We worked a bit more on our Survivor Research Projects in the lab.  The kids are doing a great job so far!

Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our novel, hearing about how Sam evaded a Fire Warden and is training his new pet falcon.

Affective Skills:
We read most of a wonderful book about a "Perfect" square.  We talked a bit about perfectionism, which we'll continue in our next class.  I plan to dig a little deeper on this topic, since I know that so many kids struggle with this.

No HW!
Until next time,

Full of Learning Friday!

We kicked off our day with Learning Huddles, which make for a nice "Soft Start" to learning!  The kids enjoy working together to create and solve problems!

Unit Study:
We did a bit more research, and will have three more class periods to research and create the Survivor Books.  The next three work sessions will be an hour each, so the kids will be able to get a lot of writing and collaboration done!
We also learned about how a man used "Survival Tips" to stay safe on a hunting trip in the Cascade Mountains.  We compared that to the ways Sam stays safe in the woods in our book.

Novel Study:
We read a bit more, finding out how Sam came to have a Falcon of his own!  It was a thrilling episode in this story!

Stations:
We stretched our convergent thinking with analogies and a logic puzzle.  We also gave our divergent thinking skills a workout with a February F2OE.  Their creativity always amazes me!

Affective Skills:
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with "2 Minute Mindfulness of Breath".  The kids enjoyed that one, especially with the beautiful photo of the waterfall in the mountains.  Kind of reminded them of our book.
