Wonderful Way to End Our Week!

It's always a great day of learning with these kiddos!

Algebraic Thinking:
We stretched our math thinking and critical thinking to solve a variety of problems. Love to see the different strategies kids use to figure out these challenging problems!

Unit Study:
The kids dove right into their Cardboard Creations today! It's wonderful to see the pure joy as they are creating their visions! They even ask me if we can skip recess so they can keep building! We will have two more building sessions before we share our games.

Stations:
We stretched our convergent thinking with a choice of Logic Puzzles. The kids also created a Comic based on our novel using Conversation Hearts as the dialog. The results were funny and SOOO creative!

Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book. The kids also used their critical and evaluative thinking to determine what made part of the chapter funny.

Affective Skills:
We learned more about Active Listening today. They know what it looks like and what it doesn't look like. Now, the trick is to practice it more! We continued our Mindfulness Practice with some peaceful music.

Hope you had a wonderful February Break!

Fourth is all About Learning!

We had another amazing day of learning in Fourth grade Target!

Algebraic Thinking:
The kids solved the mystery of the Math Mosaics by figuring out the Multiples! Since they were 7 and 8, it was pretty challenging work! Take a look at their beautiful creations using patterns and multiples!

Unit Study:
We continued our building! The kids are making good progress on their cardboard creations. Games should be ready to share for class on March 11th. If kids need more than two more class sessions to work, they should do some of the construction at home.

Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book. We also debated whether a flame is alive or not. Interesting ideas shared! The kids had a blast playing Kahoot! while reading to challenge their critical thinking skills!

Stations:
We researched two topics from our book: Galileo and Robert Oppenheimer. The kids shared many interesting facts about each. This lead to a good discussion about nuclear war and the Cold War. You might think about watching the movie "War Games" with your child, if you think it is appropriate. It is PG and explains reasons for Nuclear Disarmament in a way kids can understand. The kids also used their convergent thinking to solve a logic puzzle. We stepped up to harder puzzles this week, and the kids did great!

Affective Skills:
We explored our value in society with an interesting lesson called "What's Your Worth?" This group is so insightful about what's really important and connections to real world situations.

Until next time,

We had a day filled with creating!

Algebraic Thinking:
We continued our Hands on Equations lessons. This week was tough for both group so we'll keep working on these concepts next week.

Unit Study:
The kids shared their Cardboard Creations with a friend who gave them helpful feedback. Then they continued building. They are really making good progress now!

Novel Study:
We read another chapter of our book, learning about how Jonas Salk was the inventor of the Polio Vaccine. Interesting connections!

Stations:
The kids used their evaluative thinking to interpret idioms from our novel. They did a great one, although many had trouble with "Hole-in-a-Wall. The kids also created a piece about something "Snapping Into Place" for them, just like it did in our novel. The results are wonderful! When all are finished next week, look for pictures of their creations! The kids used critical thinking and convergent thinking to solve some tough math puzzles with our Versatiles kit.

Affective:
We collaborated to solve a "Broken Squares" puzzle. It was interesting to watch the kids solve the task without talking or gesturing.

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger
