We got the day started with a Versatiles that used our algebraic thinking and convergent thinking. The kids did great with that!
Unit Study:
We continued our research for the Survival Booklets. Mrs. Hazlett, our Tech Integration Specialist, joined us to introduce Office 365 (O365) accounts. All students have an account that can be used both at home at school. The kids are very excited about being able to share documents with others, collaborate in real time, and access their work from home and school. We're thrilled that they're learning an important tool for our work, as well as for middle and high school and beyond.
Albebraic Thinking:
We learned a new math/strategy game called "Bacon". The kids learned the rules, calculated their totals, and decided on how much risk to take in order to win the game. The results were surprising, since those who took the greatest risks didn't win the game.
Affective Skills:
We continued our mindfulness practice with Mindfulness Guided Practice. We extended our activity with criticism vs. constructive criticism. The kids enjoyed creating skits to illustrate how criticism alone can be hurtful. They reflected about this in their own lives
Novel Study:
We used our evaluative thinking skills to compare survival tips with Sam's actions from our novel. The kids did a good job using close reading to find examples from our book!
