We got started with some creative work on our Survivor Audition Videos! Can’t wait to share the results on Edmodo!
Algebraic Thinking:
We split into groups based on the readiness shown in the Hands On Equations Pre-Assessment for Level 2. One group is working on Level 2 lessons, another group is reviewing a few concepts from the end of Level 1, and the final group is working through the lessons from Level 1. It’s exciting to see the kids picking up steam as they get back into the groove with algebra!
Unit Study:
We met with Mrs. Phillips again for a lesson on online resources about our Survivors. She shared how to paraphrase, what plagiarism is, and how to cite your sources. The kids have already started collecting information and are ready to dig deeper!
We had another Team Challenge today with the Marshmallow Flip! It was hard, but some of the kids showed AMAZING teamwork! Love the way they are beginning to encourage and support each other!
Stations:
We worked on a couple of convergent thinking activities with a Logic Puzzle and Antonym Analogies. These seemed VERY easy for the kids, so onto harder puzzles! We also used our creativity and problem solving to work on a “Climb a Mountain” task with various types of puzzles.
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with "Fear vs. Anxiety-What's the Difference?" This is a great video showing kids how our bodies react the same way to real danger as they do to anxious, worried thoughts. We discussed strategies to help us quiet those worried thoughts. We also practiced our relaxing breathing for a couple of minutes. They are doing great with this!
Novel Study:
We enjoyed the full hour to catch up on our reading today! The stories are starting to get very exciting! After reading, we used our Sketchnoting Skills to show the main problem are characters are facing in each book.
Affective Skills:
We completed our lesson on Active Listening with a discussion about Cooperation and Treating Others Respectfully. The kids shared examples of these from our class by posting them on the bulletin board.
