Unit Study:
The kids worked hard to finish their research for our Model United Nations Finale on Monday. Expectations are:
Intro: Students will give a 1-2 minute presentation to share basic information about their country, such as where it is located, the official language, climate, form of government, and maybe a fun fact or two. They will also share the 3 most challenging Global Goals for their country and tell how the progress is going.
Debate: Students will take turns presenting information about how their countries are responding to each of the 6 Global Goals we studied in class:
No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Wellbeing, Clean Water & Sanitation, Quality Education, and Climate Action. During each topic discussion, students will have opportunity to share their country's plight and ask for help on particularly tough issues. Other students can respond with offers to help, if their country is in a position to do so. This should make for a lively discussion/debate! Students may also share information about the other Global Goals during the last segment of our debate when we discuss other topics.
Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book. Mia's mother suffered a scary incident and Hank was confronted once more by racism. Mia once again, has plans to help her family and friends. We'll see how things turn out soon!
Algebraic Thinking:
We started Hands On Equations Level 2 with Lesson 8. This introduces the white pawn or star. The kids will discover why we need this piece soon!
Affective Skills:
The kids had wonderful ideas about strategies to get past the Roadblocks to Growth Mindset! They are soaking in all the good lessons about working through failure, the gift of making mistakes, and how to take care of themselves. So powerful!
