Affective Skills:
We began a lesson about a "Perfect Square" and what perfectionism means. We'll continue this lesson soon. It's an important one for these kiddos!
Unit Study:
We started our new Unit about "Hidden Figures". The kids are working in groups to research three topics: The Cold War, The Space Race, and The Civil Rights Movement. These all provide the historical context for our novel, Hidden Figures. We will be working on creating shared SWAY presentations using the Office 365 tool. The kids will be able to access and edit the SWAY their group is creating, so they can add their facts and images.
Novel Study:
We've read how one of the characters ended up working as a mathematician for Langley Aeronautical Laboratory. There are so many important historical details in this book! The kids are learning a lot about this time in our country (1940-1950).
Algebraic Thinking:
We warmed up our math skills with a Math Stars last week. This week, we jumped back into Hands On Equations. It's exciting because we've started a new level and the kids get to work with negative numbers a bit.
Stations:
We used our divergent thinking to create solutions for our January F2OE. Then we created something new with our Rocket Transformation. The kids also challenged their convergent thinking with two logic puzzles each week.
