What a fabulous day of learning we had! The kids worked hard, getting everything done with time for some extra fun in the afternoon with "Link Winks"-Rhyming Word Puzzles.
Convergent Thinking Skills
We continued our work on Venn Perplexors. The kids seem to be getting the hang of these. Many more had correct answers the first time than last week. They are beginning to understand the logic process behind these puzzles!
Divergent Thinking Skills
We finished our January F2OE with MANY creative ideas! These kids always amaze us with their originality and elaboration!
Today we continued The Way to Stay in Destiny. Our chapter today focused on the many "Rules" Theo has to follow, especially staying away from Miss Sister's piano. The kids did a good job with our critical thinking questions following the reading.
We jumped back into our algebraic thinking curriculum-Hands On Equations. This system uses plastic pieces and a mat to allow kids to physically represent and solve algebraic equations. Our two new students were able to make good progress today, working on Level 1. We also use teacher created videos and the Hands-On-Equations app to individualize instruction for our math time. The HOE Level 1 app is $1.99. Returning students are working on HOE Level 2. For more info click: Hands On Equations. The HOE App would be a great way for your child to preview, practice, and or review the concepts we'll be working on in class.
We continued our work on the Movie Project with a ThingLink featuring several "Behind the Scenes" videos from OK Go. Take a peek at what your kiddos will be trying to accomplish in their movie project.
Today we continued our mindfulness practice with a review of "4-7-8 Breathing". This is a strategy kids can use to help them focus on their breathing whenever they feel a need for some stress relief.
The kids used great collaboration skills to tackle the Marshmallow & Knife Challenge. Check out their solutions in the photos below. One group finished so quickly that I didn't have time to take a photo before they ate their marshmallows!
We also tackled Perfectionism with an interactive lesson on "The Perfect Square". We'll finish Part 2 of the lesson next week.
