Stations: We stretched our brains with visual word puzzles called "Word Winks". The kids really enjoyed this new way of practicing convergent thinking! Some of them even enjoyed extending their learning by creating their own "Word Winks". Check the 4th Grade page on the Target Glog on Monday for some student created "Word Winks."
Algebraic Thinking: We worked on some evaluative thinking with a cryptogram. The kids have to really use their logic to solve the puzzle and then use their higher level skills to interpret the quote.
Focus Study: We worked some more on Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development. This week we used his theories to talk about prioritizing among choices. We had a "Mock Auction" where the kids had to make decisions on what items they would bid on with a budget of $1,000. Some of the items included: World Peace, Ending Poverty, an evening with any famous person, education at any university in the world, power of invisibility, etc. The auction process was fun, but the kids learned more from the choice of items to bid on. Some were surprised when their desired item wasn't as popular with the other kids.
Novel Study: We enjoyed getting back to the action in Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer. The kids can't wait to find out what happens next!
HW: Theodore Boone: p. 12-Compare Mr. and Mrs. Boone using the Venn diagram in your binder.
Looking forward to next week!
