One more chance to sign up for Edmodo this week. Ask your child about Edmodo Parent Sign-up info this week, if you're not already part of our group. We'll be doing much of our work for Genius Hour on Edmodo, so it would be great for you to be part of this exciting process! It's also a good way to keep track of your child's assignments, grades, and work submitted.
Unit/Research/Connections/Evaluative Thinking:
The kids worked on their Genius Hour projects in class today. They'll be working on them in class and and at home for the next four weeks. We'll be presenting projects on Thursday, March 12th. We hope you can join our audience for the big day! I'll have more details about exact times soon.
Algebraic Thinking:
We started off with Hands-On-Equations again. The new students started at the beginning, while the returning students worked in groups according to their learning needs. One group learned about using "Convenient Zeros" to work with negative numbers. The other group reviewed using "Convenient Zeros" to subtract "Stars" or "Pawns". Pretty challenging stuff!
Convergent & Divergent Thinking:
The Station Rotation was filled with great learning! We continued our work on logic puzzles for convergent thinking. Critical thinking skills were tested with a Versatiles activity. We worked on divergent thinking with a "Think, Turn, & Think Again". Creativity ruled the day!
Self-Reflection:
We learned about 4-7-8 breathing in our mindfulness moment. You can check it out here.
Novel Study:
We continued our reading of Operation Yes with more about Ms. Loupe's improvisational theater activity. The kids tried it for themselves in class! It's not as easy as it looks. The creativity was there, but it's hard to do the leading and following of improv. We'll try it again soon!
HW: Edmodo Assignment-Genius Hour Project Update: Describe how your project plan is coming along. Is your plan completed? What have you done already to get started on the first steps of your project? How are you feeling about your project--excited, happy, nervous, anxious, worried, waiting in anticipation...? Tell us about it!
Can't wait for next week,
Mrs. Kraeger
