We also learned a little about the Patent process, including the steps and why it is so important to get a patent. The kids have homework about toaster patents.

With IOWA testing, we didn't have as much time as usual for Target. We got right to work with watching a few kid inventors pitch their ideas on Shark Tank. Then we discussed how people get ideas, focusing on one method of divergent thinking: SCAMPER (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Magnify, Put to Other Uses, Eliminate, Rearrange). Later the kids sampled mini Drumstick ice cream cones and then brainstormed ways to SCAMPER the cones. The ideas were FANTASTIC! We will be working on creating Pitches next class to present to some Sharks of our own. Can't wait!
