Unit Study/Novel Study:
We read a real survival story about a hunting trip. The kids compared how that person made mistakes or did helpful things to Sam from our novel study. The kids found Sam to be very well prepared for any survival situation.
The kids used their Survival Handbooks to help while playing "The Oregon Trail" video game. Most groups did better as a result of their research. None of the groups made it safely to the end of the trail during our game time. Most lost 2-3 members along the way. The kids are beginning to realize how important preparation is!
Algebraic Thinking:
The kids applied their Hands On Equations knowledge to more challenging word problems. They did well, despite some tricky set-ups for the equations.
Affective Skills:
We successfully completed another Team Challenge-"Penny Stack". The teams worked together beautifully with each group stacking many pennies in one minute. Teamwork, planning, and positivity are growing each week!
Until next time,
