So good to be back with these great kiddos again!

Affective Skills:
We examined and discussed ideas about fairness. In the end, we decided that there are different kids of fairness.
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with "Mindfulness for Children".

Algebraic Thinking:
We worked hard on a variety of math problems using our critical thinking and math strategies. The kids love to collaborate and I enjoy hearing their debates about solutions! Great math talk!

Unit Study:
We continued our forensic stations with the "Ice Cube Test". The kids determined the water in the ice cube tray was not the same pH as tap water, which means it was tampered with!

Stations:
The kids used their convergent thinking to solve a math Versatile activity. They also created another visual vocabulary for either letter N or O from our Weighty Word book. The finished products are getting so accurate and meaningful!  The kids also enjoyed collaborating on solving some jigsaw puzzles. They did well working together!

Novel Study:
We finished three chapters in our mystery. Oh my goodness, it's getting very suspensful! We can't wait to find out what the old iron key is for!

Until next time,

Trying Hard to Solve Mysteries

We had a Target Day filled mystery!

Stations:
The kids used their algebraic thinking and knowledge of ordered pairs to reveal a mystery picture. Take a look at their gorgeous results in the photos below! They used their convergent thinking to solve a Thanksgiving Logic puzzle.

Unit Study:
We had a blast working on our Forensic Stations! My fabulous retired Target teacher, Mrs. Lobello, joined us to handle the Fiber Testing Station. The kids went outside to compare how fibers from the supects' clothing burned compared to the fibers found at the "Crime Scene". Much interesting information was revealed! We also examined hair, fibers, grass, and other things found on the suspects clothing via a Tape Lift. Again, interesting information was discovered!

No Target Classes next week because of Gifted Eligibility Testing.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

These third graders had a great day of Target, even though we switched to Thursday!
Algebraic Thinking:
We used our critical, algebraic and evaluative thinking to solve a variety of math word problems. The kids did a great job!

Unit Study:
We researched Cryptography to figure out how to decode secret messages. Later on, the kids collaborated to decode the secret note found at the "Crime Scene". They added the results to their Data Sheets and to our Suspect Board. Then they analyzed the DNA from hair found at the scene and compared it to hair from each suspect.

Novel Study:
We read a couple more chapter from our mystery. It's starting to get very suspicious!

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger

My favorite 3rd Grade memories are reading really good books and camping overnight with the Girl Scouts.
