Algebraic Thinking:
We worked on symbolic thinking today with a "Secret Code" math mystery. It turns out the code was actually a family tree. The kids were able to discern the relationships between the family members, such as cousins, great-grandparents, and sisters-in-law.
Stations:
We worked on our next two "Weighty Words"- Heresy and Ingratiate. These are tough ones to find pictures for. They are really getting the hang of using Microsoft Word and also how to find good images to represent the word. We also stretched our convergent thinking with "Thanksgiving Logic". The kids finished their SCAMPER a Magnifying Glass from last week. The creativity is incredible! Finally, we used our evaluative thinking to analyze some evidence from our crime scene.
Unit Study:
We analyzed some evidence from our "Crime Scene". The kids smelled a towel found at the scene and matched it against the body sprays/colognes of all the people involved. They also compared the fingerprints found on the two cups found at the scene with fingerprints of all the people involved. Finally, they analyzed the DNA Autoradiogram of hair samples from the people involved and the hair found at the scene.
Later, we watched "Encyclopedia Brown and the Race Car Mystery". The kids did a good job at noting the clues and trying to solve the mystery before Encyclopedia solved the case. We started "Encyclopedia Brown and the Ghostly Rider". The homework pertains to that video. The kids can watch the rest at home, if they want.
Affective Skills:
We continued our mindfulness practice with "Mindful Breathing" and "Mindful Minute".
We also read Too Many Tamales and discussed what character traits were shown in the story characters.
