Unit Study
Our coding project today involved learning what "Loops" are in a program. The kids practiced by doing a "Loopy Dance". They were great!
Convergent Thinking:
Our logical thinking went well with good progress on both our grid puzzles and our Perplexors. I can see their brains growing each week!
Algebraic Thinking:
We continued our work with Hands On Equations, Lesson 4. Today we learned a new Legal Move using the number cubes. This will be an important strategy for solving more complex equations later on.
Affective Skills:
We explored the components of creativity and qualities of inventors. The kids took a self-survey and then learned more about important aspects of the creative process.
Divergent Thinking:
We continued our work with creativity by teaming up to imagine, design, and build an invention from a toilet paper roll. The kids presented their inventions to the class. They did a good job coming up with original, clever, and useful items. We even had a song performance! Following the presentations, the kids reflected on the creative process and their own creativity.
Novel Study:
We read a few more chapters in our book, House of Robots. We discovered that the house is literally filled with MANY different robots, all performing different functions. We also learned that our main character's little sister can't go to school because of a serious immune disorder.
