Robots & Coding:
We started our new unit Robots & Coding. The first part was learning to write simple programs using graph paper. The kids enjoyed this fun way to begin coding. We'll continue learning more complicated coding techniques through the rest of the semester.
Next, we got acquainted with our Recon Rover robots. As with the coding, our robot missions will start out simple and become increasingly complicated as the kids learn and practice new skills.
Affective:
We explored our self-reflection and self-directed learner skills through some mindfulness practice with a video called Calm Down and Release your Amygdala. We learned that the amygdala is the part of the brain that makes us feel anxious.
We also continued our novel, House of Robots, where we learned about "E", the new robot that is ruining Sammy's life by going to school with him. Our discussion hit topics of teasing, being smart, and standing up for yourself.
Convergent and Algebraic Thinking:
We jumped right into logical thinking with some Venn Perplexors. The great news is that these puzzles were SO EASY for the kids! That lets us know that we can really step up the challenge for logic puzzles next week!
Our second Hands On Equations lesson went very well. The kids are more comfortable with the problem solving procedures, ways to record their thinking, and the method of checking. Next week, they'll learn a brand new strategy that changes everything!
HW: Edmodo Question-What could "E" stand for in our novel? Think of as many different and creative responses as you can.
Yours-Robots and all,
