Unit Study
We kicked off our unit today with fun lesson on "Graph Paper Programming" and some fun challenging activities on Code.Org. The kids did a great job! After that, we learned about our Recon Robots by doing a Calibration Test. The kids programmed the robots to turn 360 degrees.
Convergent Thinking Skills
Since we have new Target students joining our class this week, we took this opportunity to teach/review a type of Logic Puzzle called a "Perplexor". This is a logic puzzle without a grid. The kids caught on quickly and zoomed right through their first Perplexors.
Algebraic Thinking Skills
We worked on our math problem solving skills. Several of the problems focused on algebraic thinking using strategies such as Input/Output, patterns, and solving for the unknown.
Affective Skills
Today we continued our mindfulness practice with a review of "4-7-8 Breathing". This is a strategy kids can use to help them focus on their breathing whenever they feel a need for some stress relief.
Novel Study
Today in our reading, we were introduced to "E", the robot brother Sammy wishes he never had! It was funny hearing how the first morning of school was between Sammy and his "Bro-bot"!
HW: Edmodo Question-"What could "E" stand for?" List as many ideas as possible.
Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger
