It was all things Froggy today! We are beginning our last unit of the year, Frog Research & Dissection.
Divergent & Critical Thinking: Our stations were all about the frogs today! We got started on frog vocabulary words and read a Frog Fable today. The kids had to analyze it to figure out the Moral of the story and then share an example of that moral in real life. We also tested our fluency with an activity to list as many green things as possible. Our final station was create a caption for a crazy frog photo. The ideas were creative and SO funny! Unit Study: We built connections by viewing a video called, "The Last Golden Frog" about how scientists are trying to save an endangered species of frogs. Pretty interesting stuff! Algebraic Thinking: We 're still working hard to make more progress in our Hands-On-Equations. The new kids are moving along quickly! Our others are moving ahead to make progress on increasingly more challenging problems. HW: On Edmodo-Write 5 facts about your frog. Concentrate on appearance and/or habitat. Yours, Mrs. Kraeger Today was an amazing day in our 5th Grade Target Class! We had a wonderful audience of parents for our first ever Genius Hour Project Day! The kids amazed us all with their outstanding projects! I'm still working on uploading all the photos, website links, Powerpoint Presentations, and videos. Stay tuned for an update in the next couple of days!
Parents-thank you for your support in attending today and in encouraging your child along the way with this project! Updating you soon! Mrs. Kraeger Unit/Research/Connections/Evaluative Thinking:
Genius Hour Project Time was very productive! The kids were immersed in finishing their Genius Hour Projects. I was able to conference with each student/group to confirm readiness for presentations next week. It was very exciting to see their progress and hear about what they will present! I can't wait for next week's presentations! Algebraic Thinking: Hands-On-Equations has turned into a happily messy, busy workshop of algebra learning! The kids are moving along at their own rate--amazing me with their tremendous algebraic thinking! Convergent & Divergent Thinking: The Station Rotation was right on track! We continued our work on logic puzzles for convergent thinking. We worked on close reading with our novel, Operation Yes!. Novel Study: We continued our reading of Operation Yes! Gari had the worst first day of school EVER, and Bo ended up in BIG trouble. Plus, Bo found out his dad might be stationed in Afghanistan for a year! Yikes! Gari is planning something big, but we don't know what yet! HW: Prepare for you Project Presentation next week: 8-10am! Can't wait for next week, Mrs. Kraeger |
