Invention convention Day!

12/13/2016

Our day started off with a frantic mad dash with kids trying to finish up last-minute details on display boards and practice their pitches just one more time!  By 8am, they might not have been completely ready, but it was time to get the "Show on the Road"!  We walked down to the room, got set up, and got the show started!

Our volunteer judges were wonderful!  We appreciated their feedback VERY much!  Parents who stopped by were very complimentary of the final projects and the TREMENDOUS amount of work that went into this unit!

Results were tallied and it was a VERY close competition for the top 3 teams:  Cooler Cones 140 points, Codex Security 138, Transform-O 136.  The team results were as follows:
Imaginators                      10th  (This was a 4th GR. team)
Touchscreen Gloves          9th
Swift Recycling                   8th
Crazy Shoe Lines                7th (Another 4th GR. team)
Danger Bracelets                6th
Self-Cleaning Keyboards    5th
Self-Cleaning Clothes         4th
Transform-O                        3rd
Codex Security                    2nd
Cooler Cones                      1st

I am very proud of the kids for digging in, doing the research, and learning the Design Process.  I told the kids today, that any of these inventions are possible, with or without going to the GaTech InVenture Competition.  It just depends on whether a group wants to take on the Patent Process.

Later in the day, we exercised our convergent, divergent, and critical thinking skills with a logic puzzle, a jellyfish transformation, and some critical thinking questions about figurative language from our book.  Check out the Transformations outside the classroom this week.  They are SO creative!

We managed to read 5 (short) chapters in our book today.  It is nearing the end, so the kids are super excited to see how everything turns out for Melvin.

HW:  NONE!  Relax and enjoy some Holiday fun!  Like this UConn video

Until next time,

Count Down to Invention Convention!

The kids worked diligently today to finish their Tri-Boards in preparation for next week's Invention Convention!  There was a mad rush for Die-Cut letters for titles and LOTS of typing and printing (and RE-Printing) of documents for the Tri-Boards.  I'm proud of their hard work!  We will be holding our Invention Convention on Tuesday, December 13th from 8-8:45am in Room 227 (next to Music).  Please join us to check out all the fantastic inventions!

We managed to squeeze in some convergent thinking with logic puzzles and quite a bit of reading on our novel.  We're almost finished!

Check out some photos of the kids hard at work!

HW:  Finish the Tri-Board & prepare for Invention Convention

Until next week,
