Stations:
We worked on getting our Notebooks set up with divider tabs for each of the subjects. We also used our convergent thinking skills to solve a logic puzzle. We also used our divergent and evaluative thinking to create ways to escape detention, like the main character in our novel. After listing various ideas, we evaluated and ranked them. I saw some really clever responses!
Later on, we used our divergent thinking skills to create various responses for our August F2OE-Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaboration. Wow! Loved their creative ideas!
Affective Skills:
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with "4-7-8 Breathing". This is an easy and effective way for kids to calm down, focus, or just grab a moment of calm whenever they want.
Algebraic Thinking:
We assessed our algebra skills with a Hands On Equations pre-test. This will help us know where each child is ready to start with new lessons this year.
Unit Study:
We watched an incredible TED talk from Jane McGonigal. The kids were amazed and ready to take the challenge! Are you ready? Then the kids watched another Crash Course Video-Psychology of Games. They made lots of connections with this one!
Novel Study:
The kids enjoyed meeting another character in our novel. They also learned about the three types of irony, as our main character discovered how he ended up in the Gifted Academy. We already knew that, but now he does too!
