Convergent Thinking:
We warmed up our convergent thinking with a logic puzzle. Even though the kids have done harder puzzles, this one was pretty challenging for them. We'll try different types of logic puzzles each week, until we've worked our way through all of them. Along the way, we'll be honing those critical thinking skills for sure!
Making Connections & Communication:
We spent some of our Computer Lab time working on a pre-reading vocabulary sheet for our novel study, Ungifted. The words were tough!
Later we read a bit more of the story. Our books have come in, so next week the kids can follow along in their own copies.
Self-Reflection:
We graphed the results of our Multiple Intelligence Surveys. There is such a diversity of talents in the class! We also worked on a Goal Setting sheet. This will help the kids choose one area that they would like to improve on this year. We'll revisit that several times this year to check on progress.
Algebraic Thinking:
We stretched our math brains today working on things like cubing numbers, figuring out combinations using a chart, and ways to calculate number of tiles needed to cover a floor when the tiles aren't 1x1. Interesting to see that some problems were easy for some kids, while others were more challenging. Those multiple intelligences again, even in the types of problems and solution strategies.
Divergent Thinking:
We had a great time with our collaborative problem solving task, "Pipe Cleaner Zoo." The kids showed so much creativity with their names, details about their animals, and even the way they labeled their animals. Super work! Check it out below.
