Algebraic Thinking:
We pressed on with our Hands On Equations lessons. As the concepts are becoming more challenging, we're working to understand in more depth. This is new for some of the kids, who are used to zipping along quickly with easier math concepts.
Novel Study:
We read a few chapters in our book. Sam is successfully surviving the winter, after he realized he had to gather and stack wood when it started to get cold. We followed up with a critical thinking question and a creative problem solving task: Invent a Machine to Gather and Stack Wood for Sam.
Stations:
The kids used divergent and evaluative thinking to create Word Clouds or Collages of Sam, the main character in our novel. They also used critical thinking to write an advice letter to Sam. Finally, they used convergent thinking to solve a logic puzzle.
Unit Study:
We started creating our Survival Bracelets using Paracord. We'll finish these up next week. Here's the video we used: Paracord Bracelets.
Affective Skills:
We extended our work on "Extreme Dreams" with Diana Nyad's follow-up attempt to swim across from Cuba to Key West. Very inspirational!
We continued our Mindfulness Practice with some mindful music.
Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger
