Froggy in Fourth

It was all things Froggy today!  We are beginning our last unit of the year, Frog Research & Dissection.

Divergent & Critical Thinking:
Our stations were all about the frogs today!  We got started on frog vocabulary words and read a Frog Fable today.  The kids had to analyze it to figure out the Moral of the story and then share an example of that moral in real life.  We also tested our fluency with an activity to list as many green things as possible.  Our final station was create a caption for a crazy frog photo.  The ideas were creative and SO funny!

Unit Study:
We built connections by viewing a video called, "The Last Golden Frog" about how scientists are trying to save an endangered species of frogs.  Pretty interesting stuff!

We honed our research knowledge with a presentation from Mrs. Phillips about the most useful sites to find great frog information and images.  She gave us so many good ideas!

Algebraic Thinking:
We 're still working hard to make more progress in our Hands-On-Equations.  The new kids are moving along quickly!  Our others are moving ahead to make progress on increasingly more challenging problems.

HW: On Edmodo-Write 5 facts about your frog.  Concentrate on appearance and/or habitat.

Yours,
Mrs. Kraeger

Thank you so much for the sweet treats and thoughtful gifts to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week!  It is my pleasure to work with your wonderful children each week!  They make me smile every day!

Convergent Thinking:
We changed up the Station Rotation a bit today with one last Medieval Activity-a reading exploration of The Court Jester in the Middle Ages.   We also had our regular logic puzzles and Set, a logical thinking game, to work those convergent thinking skills.

Divergent Thinking:
We had a wonderful time creating and sharing St. Patrick's Day themed solutions to our March F2OE, including new uses for CD/DVDs, What to find at the end of the rainbow, a new Leprechaun suit, and a transformation of a 4 Leaf Clover.  Super Creativity all around!

Self-Reflection:
We continued our Mindfulness Moments with a short guided relaxation.  View it here: Still Quiet Place

Novel Study/Medieval Times:
We finished the rest of "Prince Brat" a video adaptation of The Whipping Boy.  The kids were surprised by the ending.  It wasn't what they were expecting!

Unit Study: Frogs
We had a brief introduction to frogs today, discussing why Frogs are an indicator species and what that means.  We also chose our individual frogs to research.  There is a Frog Resource page on the Target Glog.  We'll begin research next week.

HW:  Edmodo-Check out the Frog Glog to make sure you can find some information about your frog.

Until Next Week,
Mrs. Kraeger

Convergent & Divergent Thinking:
We changed up the Station Rotation a bit today with two Medieval Activities-a reading exploration of Food in the Middle Ages, and creating a diagram of parts of a castle.  We also had our regular logic puzzles to keep us sharp too1

Divergent Thinking:
We started sketches of our Coat of Arms.  We'll work some more of those next week by creating a finished product.

Self-Reflection:
We continued our Mindfulness Moments with a short guided relaxation.  View it here: Quiet Cave

Medieval Unit Collaboration/Research:
Expert Groups collaborated to finish projects today.  I think most groups are close or ready to present next week.  A few small pieces were taken home to finish up.

Novel Study:
We read three more chapters in our novel, The Whipping Boy.  Jemmi and Prince Brat (Horace) escaped from the bandits, got lost in the forest, met a run-away bear, and were on their way to town with the Hot Potato Cap'n.  That is until they were captured again by the bandits!  Will Prince Brat ever get the plan straight?  Will Jemmi finally get away?  We'll find out next week when we finish the book!

HW:  Edmodo-Write a short update about your project presentation ideas.

Until Next Week,
Mrs. Kraeger
