Is that a Frog?

We started off strong today, with a tough Versatiles math challenge.  They didn't all finish, but most were able to solve at least part of the challenge.

Algebraic Thinking:
We dove back into our word problems today, seems to be getting easier for the kids.  Great news!

Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book and watched a short video clip of how Vietnam Vets were treated when they came back from the War.  Tough stuff!  We also learned about "Fair Weather Friends" and used our divergent thinking skills to create collages of "Lucky Charms" to go along with our chapter.

Unit Study:
We reviewed evaluating Online Sources and effective paraphrasing to prepare for our frog research.  The kids were all able to find some excellent facts about their frogs during our research time.

No Homework!

Enjoy Spring Break!

Movie Making to the End!

We had a good day in Target!  The kids got off to a good start this morning with finishing their movies.  We were proud of how they collaborated, problem-solved, and used flexibility to overcome obstacles!

We hope you'll join us next week, March 23rd-from 8-8:20, for our Movie Premiere Party!  We'll be in Room 227, next to the Music Room.

The kids also worked hard on their algebraic thinking skills with more word problems.  They are getting stronger with interpreting the meaning of the problems and using that information to set up and solve the equations.

We stretched our creative thinking with March F2OE!  Take a look at them outside in the hall!  Some pretty amazing ideas!

Finally, we read just a bit of our novel and will pick that back up next week with a "Ghost Mode" game of Kahoot to match wits against last year's 4th graders!  We'll see which class wins the high score!

Today was another great day in Target!

We started off with a bang on our movie making!  The kids are working together to wrap things up on the movie.  Their collaboration is really making them so much more productive!  We'll finish up next week with our Movie Premiere Party on March 23rd, at 8am.  Parents are invited to attend.  More details next week!

Algebraic Thinking:
We hit the word problems again today with GREAT success!  It's exciting to see the kids understanding how to apply the algebraic skills to actual problems and solve them!

Affective Skills:
We continued our mindfulness practice with Mindful Minute.  Check it out!

Novel Study:
We continued our novel reading with the kids creating a word cloud about the main character.  They are SO creative!  Take a look at them in the hall.

We also read a couple of chapters and learned a little bit about the history and impact of the Vietnam War.  This was discussed in our novel, so this mini-lesson helped the kids better understand why the character acts the way he does.  The kids also answered a Padlet using their critical thinking skills.

Movies & More!

Whew! What a busy day we had!

Unit Study:
The kids started out strong using their problem solving and divergent thinking to create some fantastic scenes for our movie!  They got SO much done today!  The teamwork was amazing!

Algebraic Thinking:
We tackled word problems today.  Boy was that a challenge!  Applying the skills to actual problems is so much more complex than solving the basic equations.  We'll keep plugging away, as the kids make progress!

Affective Skills:
We worked more on our dealing with Constructive Criticism today.  We watched a neat video, "Water off a Duck's Back".  Several of the kids made the connection immediately to how we could handle criticism.  That was GREAT!  We discussed useful strategies for situations when you might face criticism.

Later, we continued our mindfulness practice with Anxiety Relief with Widdle the Worrier and Til the Thinker and Cloud Breathing.

Novel Study:
We reviewed our last chapter and continued on with The Way to Stay in Destiny.  The kids are finding out more about Theo's past and what his uncle may have planned.
