Bridges to Learning!

Today was all about BRIDGES!  We finished up our bridge webquests to get some basic information about bridges.  Later, we divided into groups for jigsaw learning to go more in-depth about each of the 5 main types of bridges.  Ask your child what they are!  Each group shared their information with the class through a short presentation.  Finally, we tried a fun Bridge Challenge to apply the knowledge we've learned about bridges.  You can take a peek on our Target Glog-4th Grade Page.

Just so we didn't overload on bridges, we did squeeze in a few other areas.  We continued our work on growth mindsets with a discussion of "The Perfect Square".  Some interesting comments during this session!

We also worked on a new format for a logic puzzle and a divergent thinking activity-May F2OE.  Take a peek at the results outside our classroom next week.

Back to Work!

We had a busy day today catching up on unfinished work, learning new things, practicing our collaboration, and enjoying our time together!

We continued our Bridge research with our webquest and a video, Understanding Bridges.  This will give us our basic bridge information, so we can work on some bridge building and other hands-on activities.

We created a mural of our favorite scenes from our novel, The Way to Stay in Destiny.  It turned out great!  Check it out, if you're in the hall next week for Field Day!

We worked more on our growth mindset and learned about how to overcome potential roadblocks to achieving a growth mindset.  The kids had excellent strategies for reaching their goals!

We worked more on Hands On Equations: Assessment corrections, new Lesson 14, and Word Problems involving Distance.

Finally, we did a fun activity called Back-to-Back drawing.  The kids worked with partners.  One was the drawer, the other was the describer who had to explain how to draw the secret image.  Drawing that simple bridge was MUCH harder than any of them thought it would be.  We talked about how important it is to communicate clearly and ask questions to clarify directions.  Check out the fun below:

Short, but sweet

We had a short day because of Milestones testing.  We tried to make the most of our time together by working hard and getting things accomplished!

We were able to finish our Hands-On-Equations Assessment review and corrections today.  It is helpful for the kids to see their mistakes and work through errors to find out correct strategies.

We also got started on our research about the basics of bridges with a webquest.  We'll finish that next week.

Finally, we were able to finish our novel, The Way to Stay in Destiny.  We ended the book with a class mural of our favorite scenes from the book.

Looking forward to next week when we have a full day of class!
