Up, Up, and Away in Balloons!

We sailed away with our Hot Air Balloon research today.  The kids completed a webquest to become Balloon Experts!  This will help with our STEM activity next week!

Hands On Equations was wonderful with the kids working hard on negative numbers and a new legal move of "Convenient Zero".

Our logical thinking got a workout with some Halloween Cryptograms!

We had a blast during reading time with the kids creating their own questions for a Kahoot! game.  It was an EPIC battle of 20 questions about our current chapter!

Check out the fun below!

WHAT AN AMUSING DAY!

The kids jumped right into designing their Amusement Park Rides today!  Next, they scoured the available building materials to decide what to use and how to create their design.  Finally, we shared the projects with the group.  There was SO much creativity evident in these projects!  Several of the students/groups had prepared a strong description of their ride to share and that made such a difference!  Enjoy the photos below!

Later we read a bit more of our novel and answered some critical thinking questions related to the chapter we finished.

A BUFFET OF LEARNING!

Our day started off strong with our learning stations!  Convergent thinking was a logic puzzle and "Create Your Own Analogies".  They rose to the occasion!  We challenged our creativity with an October F2OE.  The kids chose 2 elements of Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, or Elaboration to create!  Our final station was critical reading & thinking with our novel, Twenty-One Balloons.

Next, we spent some time researching flight and parachutes.  The kids were totally immersed in finding out more about the science behind flight.

We jumped back into a new lesson in Hands On Equations to grow our algebraic thinking skills.  Yes, we're working with variables and the opposite of the variable!

We shared our restaurants and menus today.  Check out the photos below!

We enjoyed a few moments of relaxation and calm with a mindfulness video, Hot Air Balloon Ride.

Finally, we read more of our novel, Twenty-One Balloons.  Hearing about the amazing inventions of the kids in the story was so much fun!  Our kids were absolutely bubbling over with ideas they wanted to create!

Relating to Research!

We worked long and hard on our 1880s research today, including our choice topics from the time period, our restaurants, and reading about the Duryea Brothers, inventors of the first automobile.  Take a look at the GIANT newspaper the kids created, which is hanging outside the Target rooms.

During our stations we worked on convergent thinking skills with a logic puzzle and a mixed analogy task.  We also stretched our creative thinking with a task to Design the Car of the Future.

Our algebraic thinking skills were challenged with another round of word problems.  Applying the Hands-On-Equations skills to real world problems is a higher level skill that always gets the kids thinking!

We continued our mindfulness practice with a refresher on 4-7-8 Breathing.

Finally, we read more of Twenty-One Balloons, learning about all the AMAZING inventions and features of the Moroccan Mansion.

Check out all the great learning below!

Until Next Time,
Dr. Kraeger
