In Which We Begin our Research...

We had a fun-filled day with so many different learning experiences!

Algebraic Thinking:
We challenged our math problem-solving skills with a Math Stars challenge.  The kids worked hard and did pretty well on this.  Some were resistant to our suggestion of how helpful charts can be in solving math puzzles.  They got to the solutions, some the easy way, some the hard way.  It's a process!

Stations:
We continued our work on Venn Perplexors and Relationship Logic Activities to stretch our convergent thinking skills.  The Venn puzzles were a bit easier, for those who used the formulas we taught last week!  We also used our divergent thinking to SCAMPER a backpack.  OH!  The Creativity was AMAZING!  Look for these outside our classroom!

Affective Skills:
We watched Simon Cowell demonstrate criticism.  Then, we brainstormed what constructive criticism might be.  It was a very fruitful discussion!
Later, we continued our mindfulness practice with 4-7-8 Breathing.  This is always a good one to get us back on track and ready focus on learning!

Unit Study:
We introduced our Survival Research Project, which is due on March 28th.  We will have time in class each week to work on this collaborative project.  Groups will work to create a survival manual including 10 topics (with illustrations), a Table of Contents, and a Front Cover.  Each child will research, write, and illustrate 2 topics for their group's manual.  Research can start on the Target Glog-4th Grade page.

Novel Study:
We read a bit more of our book, My Side of the Mountain.  The kids are always so upset when we stop reading!  They say it's always a cliffhanger!

HW:  Edmodo-Padlet comparing the physical geography of North Georgia to the Catskill Mountain Region of NY.

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger
