Problem Solving in All Ways!

2/15/2022

We to right down to business this morning!

Unit Study:
The kids worked hard on their coding lesson on Code.org. Things are getting more challenging! The kids are learning so much about evaluative thinking and perseverance!

Algebraic Thinking:
We finally got to the magic of Legal Moves. This changes everything in how kids solve equations. You might remember this as "What you do to one side, you have to do to the other side." The Legal Move is much easier for the kids to master and just as effective!

Novel Study:
We read a few more chapters, challenging ourselves with a fluency activity and some critical thinking questions based on the book.

Stations:
We used our convergent thinking to solve a Logical Thinking puzzle and our divergent thinking to transform our robots into something completely new.

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger

Coding & Programming-So Fun!

We got off to a good start with chess and jigsaw puzzles!

Algebraic Thinking:
The kids worked on Lesson 2 of our Hands on Equations algebra program. They are still using the "Guess & Check" method to solve their simple equations. Next week, it will be all new!

Unit Study:
We moved on with Mission 2 with our Robots. The kids recorded their voices in a greeting. Then they programmed their robots to move forward, play the recorded greeting and record their response. It was fun to hear what the kids said in reply to their robots! Next, we moved on in our Code.org lessons. This time we completed "Maze Sequence". The kids learned quite a bit today in their coding. Some were frustrated, and this is a good lesson in perseverance and problem-solving.

Stations:
We used our divergent and algebraic thinking skills to find multiples and create Math Mosaics. They turned out beautifully! The kids used divergent and convergent thinking to solve problems on Robot Writing and Strange People. Fun stuff!

Novel Study:
We found out where Sammy's mother was--in her workshop! We also had fun choosing our favorite word to share with the class. These kids love big words!

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger

What a wonderful day in GR3 Target!

Algebraic Thinking:
We started our Hands on Equations algebra program today. The kids did a fantastic job with our first lesson!

Unit Study:
We learned all about our Recon Rovers today! The kids learned how to program a basic Mission, making their robots go in a triangle.

Novel Study:
We read several chapters in our book, with Sammy's mom missing at the end of chapter 20.

Stations:
We used divergent thinking to create our own "Build a Robot". The results are so creative! The kids also worked on logic puzzles using their convergent thinking skills.

Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger

My favorite 3rd Grade memories are reading really good books and camping overnight with the Girl Scouts.
