Third's the Word!

We had a wonderful Target Day of learning this week!

Convergent Thinking:
We continued to stretch our convergent thinking with logic puzzles in two different formats.  We also used critical thinking and divergent thinking to work on our words of the week: Ostracize & Paradox.  The kids are getting so good at the words that they always predict the word before I can even finish the story.  Wow!  That's pretty good!

Divergent Thinking/Connections:
We continued our work on visual note taking with more sketch noting.  This week we worked on lettering (typography) and frames, bullets, and connectors. We had a chance to practice with a short video about making a nature journal.  This will be part of the topic for our in-school field trip with the Chattachoochee Nature Center.  Check out our graphics below:

Algebraic Thinking:
We continued to delve into more difficult algebraic thinking by tackling equations with parentheses.  This lesson is the last for Level 1.  We'll work a bit more on these concepts with some application of word problems.
Affective/Divergent:
We worked a bit more on creating/filming our character trait videos with a demonstration of the power of the Aurasma app that we'll be using to put it all together.  It's a pretty cool augmented reality app!  It's also FREE!  Look for more with Aurasma next year!

HW: Create a sketch note of Quixotic after reading the Weighty Word story.

Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger

Because of the last day of Georgia Milestone testing, we had a short Target Day!  We did manage to fit in some good learning though!

STEM:
We built our newly redesigned bird feeders this week.  The designs look much more durable and allow easy access for the birds.  We'll see how well the birds like their new feeders this week.  Great teamwork on creating these feeders!

Affective/Divergent:
We finished up our storyboards for our Character Trait videos.  Partners will be recording videos next week.  I can't wait to see the finished products!

HW:  Weighty Word "N" vocabulary sheet.  (Don't forget to use color!)

Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger

Convergent/Divergent Thinking:
We worked on Stations again today.  We continued our work on logical thinking with a choice of 2 types of logic puzzles, a divergent thinking activity-Spring Scamper,  as well as building our higher level vocabulary with Weighty Words.  The word of the day was Misdemeanor.

Algebraic Thinking:
We continued our Hands-On-Equations today.  We all reviewed Lesson 4-Legal Moves, and started on Lesson 5-Combining terms.

Divergent and Critical Thinking:
We learned more about Visual Notetaking-"Sketchnoting".  Here is one of our new resources for capturing our learning in notes:

STEM:
We checked in our bird feeders today.  Most had not weathered the rainy windy weather very well.  So, we took them down to re-evaluate the designs.  The kids worked together to modify/recreate their feeder designs and create a materials list.  We'll bring materials next week and build our new feeders.

Affective:
We continued to work on our storyboards for the Character Trait mini videos.  Next week some students will start filming their videos.

HW:  Bring materials for bird feeders.

Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger
