Divergent & Convergent Thinking:
We worked on Stations today with a fun creative activity-Valentine Creative Problem Solving. They invented new Valentine's desserts/candy and transformed hearts. So many unique ideas! We also continued our work on logical thinking with logic puzzles and sequences.
Algebraic Thinking:
We continued our Hands-On-Equations today. Returning students were able to finish up our lesson on complicated Legal Move. New students finished their first lesson using a "Guess and Check" method to solve equations.
Affective:
We read a favorite Robert Munsch book, Stephanie's Ponytail. It tells the story of a girl who is brave enough to stand up to peer pressure and teasing. In the end, she uses her smart mind to think of a fitting consequence for those that teased her.
Mindfulness Moment: Today we tried a 4 minute guided meditation called "Cloud Parade". Many of the students found it very relaxing. A few really struggled with sitting quietly while imagining the clouds. Maybe more practice will help! Here's a similar one to try at home, if you're interested: Clouds and Rain
STEM:
We started our STEM Project-Building a Bird Feeder. The first step was to investigate different types of birds that are local to our area. The second part involved noticing their different beaks. Finally, we tried an experiment to pick up bird food (plastic beads) with popsicle sticks (bird beaks) to see how tough it might be for the birds. We discussed how a different type of container to hold the bird food might have made it easier to pick it up. We'll try that next week.
HW: List 5 different birds seen near your home. *Bonus: Identify what they eat. Draw the birds, if you like!
Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger
