Nature Journaling!

We had an amazing class this week with our session from Tom Howik of the Chattahoochee Nature Center!  We learned why people (scientists even) keep nature journals and the ways to make our journals pretty amazing!

Dr. Howik shared all sorts of wonderful information about techniques for drawing and record keeping for the nature journalist.  He brought some wonderful handouts about nature journals, birds, and trees.  We'll bring these home next Tuesday.

Here are some good links that he shared:

Great Day!

We had a fantastic day of learning this week!  These kids never cease to amaze me with their passion for learning, their curiosity, and their endless enthusiasm!  What a joy to help them on this journey!

We worked on all the usual Target areas today:  Convergent thinking, Divergent thinking, and algebraic thinking!  We started our Benchmark Post-Test.  This helps me to see growth in the children's algebraic and logical thinking skills since our pre-test in January.

We also had fun brainstorming ideas for a Better Bird Nest and then drawing a design for one favorite idea.  I can't wait to see what they've done!

We'll be having our in-school field trip next week at around 9:30.  I think the kids are going to like the session very much.  We'll be walking to the Outdoor classroom on our Chalker Nature Trail for our session.  Let's hope for good weather that morning!

HW:  Play outside!
Until next week!

My favorite 3rd Grade memories are reading really good books and camping overnight with the Girl Scouts.
