We had a wonderful day of learning! The kids were excited and got so much accomplished!

Convergent Thinking:
The kids are making good progress with their logical thinking activities, getting better and better each week.

Divergent Thinking:
We worked on a February F2OE, which the kids really crushed with creativity! Take a look at those outside our classroom.

Algebraic Thinking:
We are moving right along with Hands On Equations Lesson 5! Soon the kids will be ready for Word Problems!

Affective Skills:
We learned more about curiosity, especially what it can do for us!

Novel Study:
We read another few chapters in our book. We discussed how Sammy's sister shows many positive character traits and also a growth mindset.

Enjoy your Break!

Coding, Algebra, Logic & More!

We got our day off to a good start by stretching our logical and mathematical skills with a Versatiles activity about math patterns.

Unit Study
Our coding project today involved learning what "Loops" are in a program.  The kids practiced by doing a "Loopy Dance".  They were great!

Convergent Thinking:
Our logical thinking went well with good progress on both our grid puzzles and our Perplexors.  I can see their brains growing each week!

Algebraic Thinking:
We continued our work with Hands On Equations, Lesson 4.  Today we learned a new Legal Move using the number cubes.  This will be an important strategy for solving more complex equations later on.

Affective Skills:
We explored the components of creativity and qualities of inventors.  The kids took a self-survey and then learned more about important aspects of the creative process.

Divergent Thinking:
We continued our work with creativity by teaming up to imagine, design, and build an invention from a toilet paper roll.  The kids presented their inventions to the class.  They did a good job coming up with original, clever, and useful items.  We even had a song performance!  Following the presentations, the kids reflected on the creative process and their own creativity.

Novel Study:
We read a few more chapters in our book, House of Robots.  We discovered that the house is literally filled with MANY different robots, all performing different functions.  We also learned that our main character's little sister can't go to school because of a serious immune disorder.

HW:  Edmodo Question

Until next week,

Mazes, Robots & Jokes!

The kids were FULL of energy today!  We managed to harness some of that energy into some great learning!
Unit Study
We continued our coding with two lessons on Code.org, learning about how to program through a maze and how to program to create a drawing.  Later, we used those ideas to program our robots to introduce themselves with a recording and then move forward 2 feet.  The kids had a blast with this!

Convergent Thinking Skills
We worked on our logical thinking skills with a Perplexor and a Grid Logic puzzle.  They are definitely making progress with their convergent problem solving skills!
Algebraic Thinking Skills
We continued our algebra work today with Hands On Equations.  The kids are making great progress, learning a new legal move today!  This will definitely help them solve new equations!

Affective Skills
Today we continued our mindfulness practice with a review of  "Fear vs. Anxiety". This video explains how anxiety can create the same physical sensations as fear of a real danger.  Then we practiced our breathing to relax and focus our attention before the next activity with "Hot Air Balloon".

Novel Study
We continued our reading of House of Robots.  We finally heard all the crazy details of what happened on E's first day of school.  What a disaster!

HW:  Edmodo-Robot Joke
Until next time,
Dr. Kraeger
