Short & Sweet!

Our day was shortened due to Field Day, but these kids took advantage of EVERY available minute--as always!

We got started on our final movie project of Third Grade Target.  The kids will be making movies about gifted kids and gifted education for use on both the Cobb County Schools website and our Chalker website.  I'm looking forward to their finished products.

We finished our Hands-On-Equations lesson.  Only one more lesson in Level One.  They've done SO well with this!

We read a bit more in our novel, finding out that "E" is a little cooler since his reboot in the lab.

We worked on a continuation of our Robot Mission: "So You Think You Can Dance-Part 2"!  The results were creative, clever, and entertaining.  Take a look!
HW: Respond to: "How does not being perfect make you better?"

Until next week,

What a Great Day!

We enjoyed every minute of our Target Day!

The kids did a great job finishing up Lesson 6 of Hands On Equations.  They're getting the hang of parentheses in equations.

After that, we had a fantastic time with our Robot Mission: "So You Think You Can Dance".  We learned how to do the robot and then programmed our robots to dance.

We worked on our teamwork and communication skills with Back-To-Back Drawing.  One person describes how to draw a picture to their partner.  Neither can see what the other is looking at.  It was challenging with some interesting results!
Check out the fun:
We finished our Binary Bracelets today.  They turned out great!

Finally, we read more of our novel, House of Robots.  "E" the Robot has suddenly turned cool at school causing Sammy to feel left out.

HW:  Edmodo-"House of Robots" question

Until Next Time,

Too short, but Sweet!

Our time with these great kiddos was WAY too short due to Milestones testing today!  We didn't get them until after lunch.

First order of business was a walk on the nature trail to talk about how plants & trees grow stronger with sun, wind, and rain.  Then we compared them to people, discussing how we grow stronger when supported with love and given challenges to overcome.

Next, we worked on a new Hands On Equations lesson.  This was a good review of previous concepts with a new component, parentheses in the equations.  The kids did well and will finish up that lesson next week.

Finally, we got a brief introduction to the term "Binary" and learned how to code our initials or nickname in binary code.  We'll make our "Binary Bead Bracelets" next week.

HW:  Create a drawing of your tree with sun, rain cloud, roots, and branches.  Look at the Edmodo post for photos to help.

Can't wait to see this kids again next week--for a FULL day!

My favorite 3rd Grade memories are reading really good books and camping overnight with the Girl Scouts.
