We were back to our Stations today with a fun creative activity called "Cartoon Captions". Some of the ideas these kids come up with keep me laughing out loud! We also continued our work on logical thinking with logic puzzles and sequences.
Algebraic Thinking:
With the results of our Benchmark Pretest, we got a good start on Hands-On-Equations today. Returning students were able to move along with the next lesson of a more complicated Legal Move. New students began to use a "Guess and Check" method to solve equations.
Novel Study/Affective:
We finished our book today! Millie finally learned to take a chance! We discussed the outcomes of her decision to take a risk.
We also began work on defining our character traits. There are 24 traits to learn about, so this will take us quite a while to master them. We'll work on them every few weeks until we really understand the meanings, and how they might apply in life.
Collaboration:
We tried two games today: Traffic Jam and Human Knot. The kids worked together really well to figure out a solution to Traffic Jam. Human Knot was partially successful, so we'll try that one again soon.
HW: Write about whether Millie was right to take a chance on her poem. Explain why or why not.
Until next week,
Mrs. Kraeger
