What a DAY! It was great to be back with these wonderful kids! I missed them last week when I was at Georgia Ed Tech conference.
Algebraic Thinking: The kids branched out by tackling an Exemplar today. Exemplars involve algebraic thinking in extended problem solving situations. The goal is to find a solution to the problem. The most expert levels of problem solving include extensive math language, a correct solution, awareness of the audience with labeling and explanations, and generation of a rule to extend the problem. Stations: The critical thinking was evident as the kids dug into convergent thinking with our logic puzzle and our Wordly Wise evaluation work. STAR LAB: We all enjoyed exploring the solar system, the galaxy, and many constellations in the Star Lab. The children amazed me with their collective knowledge of various constellations and the legends that go with them. It was a real treat to experience this with the kids! Novel Study: We read a bit more of our fabulous book, Mixed Up Files. The main characters are trying to be find out more about the mysterious statue and trying to remain inconspicuous at the same time. A pretty tall order for two young children. HW: First In Math
